Subaru Has Earned Nine 2021 IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK Awards near Eau Claire

A whole new year means a new round of IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK awards to be distributed. Popular automotive brands have updated many of their models, adding new safety features and building more reliable overall vehicles. Subaru has come out ahead in the game, earning the coveted TOP SAFETY PICK AND TOP SAFETY PICK + awards a combined nine times for their 2021 lineup. With those nine awards, Subaru has tied for the most IIHS awards earned by an individual brand and staked its claim to being a top dog when it comes to safety and reliability.

For starters, what is the IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK, and why does it matter? First of all, the IIHS, which stands for the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, is a non-profit, independent organization dedicated to compiling and testing vehicles for general safety on the highway. Their goal is to better reduce unexpected and dangerous incidents by evaluating vehicles each year and providing valuable information to customers.

The TOP SAFETY PICK and the TOP SAFETY PICK + are the results of this research. Each is an award given to models that excel at providing safety measures for drivers, according to the IIHS criteria.

How to Win a TOP SAFETY PICK Award

To win a TOP SAFETY PICK award, vehicles must meet a series of criteria laid out by the IIHS around Menomonie. Each vehicle is put through various crash tests, such as the driver-side small overlap front test, the side crash test, the passenger-side small overlap front test, the roof strength test, the moderate overlap front test, and a head restraint test. A vehicle must earn a Good rating in all of these tests to be considered.

Similarly, a vehicle must be rated either Advanced or Superior for available front crash prevention tests. These tests include vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian tests. And a vehicle must earn either the Acceptable or Good rating for its headlights. If a vehicle earns top ratings across all of these, it can be given the TOP SAFETY PICK award. The TOP SAFETY PICK + provides the same testing, only with stricter evaluations.

Subaru TOP SAFETY PICK Winners

For the TOP SAFETY PICK award, three Subaru vehicles won the award for 2021 near Chippewa Falls, WI. The winners are the Subaru Crosstrek, the Subaru Impreza, and the Subaru WRX. This means the Crosstrek has won this for ten consecutive years, the Impreza has won it for 14 consecutive years, and the WRX has won it for eight consecutive years.
